Finnish pianist Janne Mertanen performed his Northern Sounds piano recital at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) on October 2. Mertanen has become known particularly as a Chopin interpreter, as his repertoire covers the composer's piano music comprehensively. In 2015 Mertanen recorded all Sibelius' piano works for Sony Classical label with great reviews. He is a full-time soloist and a Steinway-artist.
At his performance at NAFA the concertgoers were indulged with beautiful sounds from Finnish Composers: Jean Sibelius, Leevi Madetoja and Heino Kaski as well as Frédéric Chopin. The musical journey took the listeners from beautiful wilderness of the vast forests and lakes of Karelia and along the sea coastline of Finland to the wild rapids of Pankakoski. The audience of up to 300 listeners warmly greeted Janne's subtle and refined playing. Janne Mertanen indulged the enthusiastic audience with two encores by Sibelius.
The concert was supported by Ductor.
